PACKAGING SUSTAINABILITY

APPLICABLE LEGISLATION

Environmental labelling

Italian Legislative Decree No. 116 of September 3, 2020, requires all packaging to be labelled in accordance with applicable technical standards and European Commission decisions. The labels are intended to facilitate the collection, recovery, reuse, and recycling of packaging while providing consumers with clear information on its proper disposal.

Manufacturers must also identify the packaging materials used to enable classification in accordance with Commission Decision 97/129/EC. To support compliance with these requirements, Ministerial Decree No. 360 of September 28, 2022, published on November 21, 2022, adopted the Guidelines on Environmental Labelling under Article 219(5) of Italian Legislative Decree No. 152 of April 3, 2006. The Guidelines provide instructions to help responsible parties meet their packaging labelling obligations.
